Explore Young Citizens
Building on foundational skills covered in kindergarten, the Grade 1 Young Citizens program is complete with rigorous instruction paired with an engaging cast of characters that explain key themes and help differentiate lessons for different reading levels.
Inquiry & Literacy
This literary-focused, social studies curriculum features an engaging student book, detailed teacher’s guide and online platform, wet-erase maps and globes, engaging activities, leveled student readers, and more. In the text, a diverse cast of characters contextualize themes though units of increasing scope, from family to the world.
Hands-On
The comprehensive, hands-on social studies curriculum is uniquely designed to support the varied learning styles of your classroom. The diverse contents of the program encourage student-led inquiry and promote depth of knowledge. It includes hands-on maps, globes, and a large markable neighborhood floor map for activities that will help students develop key geographic mapping and spatial thinking skills.
Encourage Biliteracy
The curriculum fosters multilingual and biliteracy skills for young learners. English-speaking students can build biliteracy skills with the Spanish versions of the Student Book, Leveled Student Readers, and Group Activity Cards. The program also works to support ELL students when they follow along with the Spanish versions of the text.
Technology-Based
A new elementary curriculum crafted for the modern classroom, Nystrom’s Young Citizens Grade 1 has lessons that are available digitally to promote higher level thinking, and are easy to follow throughout the program. The online platform features many additional features, such as engaging activities and auto graded assessments. Both teachers and students can access content anywhere, anytime.
