A Personal Perspective
Empower your third graders to work more independently as they discover more about the world around them and how they fit into it.
Discover What's Inside
Our Place in the World is designed to help third graders ask questions and take action as they learn about how communities work, our government, and what it’s like to live on other continents.
Habitat Helpers ask compelling questions that lead to deeper knowledge and help strengthen students’ skills.

Build Foundational Skills
Third graders think more deeply about the world around them as they learn foundational geography skills, such as:
- Interpret a variety of maps and photographs
- Choose appropriate information to answer questions
- Draw conclusions from atlas resources
- Learn to use an atlas as a reference tool
- Use critical thinking skills
Turnkey and Cross-Curricular
Third graders work more independently and in groups with the help of easy-to-follow activities that help them use the atlas effectively.
Activities include literature links and cross-curricular connections, making it easy to incorporate social studies into instructional time.
Literacy lessons are designed to build ELA skills and concepts—such as describing connections and writing an opinion piece—in the context of social studies.
