Our Place in the World

Nystrom Grade 3 Atlas

Our_Place_in_the_World

A Personal Perspective

Empower your third-graders to work more independently as they discover more about the world around them and how they fit into it.

Discover What's Inside

Our Place in the World is designed to help third-graders ask questions and take action as they learn about how communities work, our government, and what it’s like to live on other continents.

Habitat Helpers ask compelling questions that lead to deeper knowledge and help strengthen students’ skills.

Build Foundational Skills

Third-graders learn geographic literacy skills and primary social studies concepts such as

  • interpreting a variety of maps and photographs;
  • choosing appropriate information to answer questions;
  • drawing conclusions from atlas resources;
  • learning to use an atlas as a reference tool; and
  • using critical thinking skills.

Turnkey and Cross-Curricular

Third-graders work more independently and in groups with the help of easy-to-follow activities that help them use the atlas effectively.

Activities include literature links and cross-curricular connections, making it easy to incorporate social studies into instructional time.

Literacy lessons are designed to build ELA skills and concepts—such as describing connections and writing an opinion piece—in the context of social studies.

Image of a quotation mark
“The Atlases are age appropriate and are bright and inviting for the students. The teachers like the resources that go with the atlases since they connect with literacy lessons and standards. I also like how the atlases build upon each other each year, you can really see the progression of geography skills.”
