Our Changing World

Nystrom Grade 2 Atlas

Grade 2 Atlas: Our Changing World

Community Explorations

Help your second-graders explore the people and places that make up a community, both locally and globally.

Discover What's Inside

Our Changing World helps second-graders understand how maps can change the way we see the world, what communities look like, and what people do in North America and on the other continents.

Bird Guides help second-graders focus on change over time and from place to place.

Build Foundational Skills

Second-graders learn geographic literacy skills and primary social studies concepts such as

  • interpreting and comparing photographs and maps;
  • identifying places in a community;
  • identifying community changes;
  • using information to answer questions;
  • drawing conclusions from atlas resources; and
  • learning how maps show information.

Turnkey and Cross-Curricular

Second-graders have fun applying their skills in engaging, hands-on ways, including creating flap books and playing a memory game.

Activities include discussion guides and cross-curricular connections, making it easy to incorporate social studies into instructional time.

Literacy lessons are designed to build ELA skills and concepts—such as categorizing words and describing connections—in the context of social studies.

Image of a quotation mark
“The Atlases are age appropriate and are bright and inviting for the students. The teachers like the resources that go with the atlases since they connect with literacy lessons and standards. I also like how the atlases build upon each other each year, you can really see the progression of geography skills.”
Suzanne Gons
District Supervisor of Social Studies
