Each chapter of a Big Eras unit includes a “Historical Context” essay. Prior student knowledge and personal experience coupled with text and primary sources give students context for their learning. Essential questions spark student inquiry about humans and the environment; humans and other humans; and humans and ideas.
Lessons are built around activities supported by handouts that give students opportunities to interact with text, images, maps, and data. Group work and class discussions are integral to the activities, giving students practice thinking critically, working collaboratively, and communicating their new learning.
The Big Eras series of units is available in print and online at Active Classroom, where teachers can assign, track, and autoscore student work. Take a closer look with a 30-day free trial. Fill out the form below.
